Working With Your Doctor On Your SSDI Claim

Having a collaborative relationship with your doctor is one of the most important ways you can strengthen your Social Security Disability Income (SSDI) claim.

At Gesmer & Reynolds, P.C., we have extensive experience assisting clients with SSDI claims. We will work closely with you and your doctor to help resolve your SSDI claim as efficiently as possible.

What Information Should You Give Your Doctor?

Make sure you have the following information available during your doctor’s appointment so that everything goes smoothly:

  • Your limitations: Be prepared to discuss the physical aspects of your life that are either no longer possible or that cause pain. Actions including walking, crouching, sitting and standing are all important to bring to your doctor’s attention if there are limitations.
  • How these limitations affect your life: Talk with your doctor about how the limitations impact your day-to-day routines and the types of work you may or may not be able to do. Keeping a journal documenting these limitations can be helpful.

All doctors are busy, and filing paperwork for your SSDI claim can get lost in the shuffle. We will work closely with medical professionals to ensure that the doctor submits all documentation in a timely manner and that your claim is in a better position.

What Should You Do If Your Doctor Is Not Cooperating?

No matter how much information you provide your doctor, there is always the chance that he or she simply will not take the needed actions for your claim. Your doctor may not understand what needs to be done or may not believe he or she has enough time to fill out the necessary forms.

If this happens to you, our attorneys will work to prevent a doctor from derailing your claim. We have worked with uncooperative doctors before, and we know how best to proceed so that your claim can continue to move forward.
